Book that gets you Motivated to use Pastels
I received this book for Christmas. I have just finished reading it. I can't wait to get started! Lesley has some nice tips on keeping fresh ideas coming, working within a space, different pastel brands, papers. I am looking forward to trying out her demonstatrions. She is excited about what she does and in turn is making me excited about trying it. She is an incredible artist. If only I could become 1/2 as good as she is. Well, off to get my materials and just in!

Praise From Artist White Wolf........
If I were to choose one artist pastel instruction book to learn & grow from, it would be,"Painting Animals that touch the heart", by Lesley Harrison. Whether you are a beginner or a professional pastel artist, Lesley's soft approach and easy to follow instructions will bring out the best in you & allow your free artistic talent to expand. As you read, you will clearly FEEL Lesley's true love & respect for the creatures of our mother earth, and in a sense, she will teach you how to project that feeling into your own works. Being that I am a self taught career artist, I have explored many self help art books to gain insight and develop my own style. I am very proud to say that if any artist, or any artistic art instruction book has most influence the development of my own personal style of projecting the SPIRIT of what I am painting, it would be the Art of Lesley Harrison. Thank you Lesley for your fresh and respectful approach to the cherished creatures of our earth. I shall always view your work as my mentor to the true & pure meaning of art. Your work & visions shall be honored. "May your foot prints always leave happy tracks in the sand." Brightest Blessings, __Artist White Wolf

Petitioning for the Impossible: The Prayer of Supplication
Published in Paperback by Harrison House, Incorporated (December, 1997)
Author: Buddy Harrison
Average review score:

How valuable is your time?
I have been a christian for over 20 years. Prayer stands in a class by itself. I have read many books on why it is important, things that have been accomplished, lives transformed and many other glowing reports. The problem normally occurs in taking the time, with a right heart and then doing an activity that yields real results. From an ever present and fresh point of view, this book is a quick read, life changing, extremely practical and will be valuable to anyone who is a believer in Jesus Christ and is willing to apply the principles.

This is a nuts and bolts template of what is required, how to do it and why. It's application is only limited to what we are willing to invest.

Effective prayer has similarities in becoming a parent. Observing parenthood from the outside and becoming one are worlds apart. Furthermore there is a large potential difference in being a parent and performing the various functions well. No matter how long we work at it, there is always an opportunity for improvement.

It is worth reading for every Xtian.
I want a copy of this book can you please let me know you terms of payment

The Piazza Tales (The Northwestern-Newberry Edition of the Writings of Herman Melville)
Published in Paperback by Northwestern University Press (November, 1996)
Authors: Herman Melville, Harrison Hayford, Alma A. MacDougall, and G. Thomas Tanselle
Average review score:

The Lighting-Rod Man
The Lighting-Rod Man is one of Melville's lesser known stories. Despite the cold, dark setting, it is more comical than most of his works other works. This satire tells about one door-to-door salesman, and how annoying, pushy, and arrogant he was to his perspective customer (Doesn't seem like a lot has change since then), and how he ends up getting thrown out of the house.
The story The Lighting-Rod Man jumps right into the story in the first paragraph and just goes, which makes it much easier to get into and a much easier read for those that have a hard time getting started reading. I feel that it is worthy buying The Piazza Tales even if you just read this one story let alone the five other stories.

brillaint and terrifying
Put simply, this is the best collection of short stories by any American author.

Promises to Keep : Daily Devotions for Men of Integrity
Published in Paperback by Harper SanFrancisco (June, 1996)
Author: Nick Harrison

What A Way To Start The Day........
I picked this book up on a whim...a last minute purchase, without even looking inside at most of the content...I've had it for more than two years now, and I've made it a daily practice to read the chapter for the day before leaving my house to go to work...This collection of Bible lessons and day to day experiences from so many different authors has brought a great deal of peace into my hectic life...I would highly recommend this book to any man, single or married, with or without children...my favorite passage has got to be the one from Max Lucado..."Choose This Day"...GO BUY THIS BOOK!

Great insight into a variety of a man's life decisions
This book culminates many different sources into one, practical, and intelligent synopsis for men. This book is good for men ages 15 and older seeking to either form, renew, or solidify their values based upon those in the Christian faith. However, this book also provides great moral guidance without being too "preachy". It is very reader-friendly and can take four minutes to read a daily devotion that will leave you reflecting upon its merit for hours. In addition to the devotional passages, there are carefully chosen passages of the Bible that relate to the contemporary topic at hand. Without a doubt, this is a book that I will give to both my father and son - and that I will continue to re-read for years to come.

Rhythmic Illusions
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (July, 1999)
Authors: Gavin Harrison and Gavin Harrison
Average review score:

IT'S ALL AN ILLUSION !
WOW! Now here is a Great book, I've often been Puzzled by some of the Rhythms I've heard in either Modern Music or some of the Jazz or Fusion Music I've been listening to and I've not been able to figure them out, But finaly here is a book that Explaines much of it, and it's funny that some of these Illusions are quite simple actualy, that is in theory, But in practise they can be very difficult, at least some of them.

This Book is for the drumset, I don't play the drumset but bought it anyway because these Rhythm concept can be applied to any instrument.

The Book deals with many Rhythm concept like Beat displacement, Modulation, Rhythmic scales and Polyrhythm, ther's a lot of Material here and I must agree with Bill Bruford in his Foreword to the book "I've got Work to Do".

Other good books that deal with some of these things are "Rhythm and Meter Patterns By Gary Chaffee" and "Polyrhythms by Peter Magadini".

Great drum book
This book showed me so much about what can be done on the drums. It explains things that one might never think of or might have ideas about but never be bale to put them on paper. Also comes with a brilliant CD that will make your head spin!

Shakespeare: The Complete Works
Published in Hardcover by International Thomson Publishing (June, 1952)
Authors: William Shakespeare and George Bagshaw Harrison
Average review score:

Harrison's Shakespeare
This is the version used in my college Shakespeare courses, way back in 1972! It was lost in a housefire, and I haven't seen it since. The one hundred page introduction is dense and rich in historical detail. This IS the best version I have ever encountered. What a find!

This is an excelent compilation of the works of Shakespeare
This is the most excelent compliation of the works of William Shakespeare that I have ever seen. The introductions to the works are thorough and the footnotes are easily understandable. I highly recomend this book to any Shakespeare fan

Silverfoot's Second Dance: A Story of a Twenty-First Century Native American
Published in Paperback by Billmar Press (May, 2001)
Author: William D. Harrison
Average review score:

Respectful book about modern Native American
William D.Harrison has penned a respectful book about a contemporary Native American. The author's knowledge, respect of Native American elders, powwow pagentry and the energy of Chester Silverfoot really comes alive for the reader of this book. Tenna Penner, Retailer, Volusia County, Fl.

tale of Native America Pow-wows
The William D. Harrison book called Silverfoot's Second Dance, is a great tale about pow-wows and the main character, Chester Silverfoot goes through some real interesting changes. I think this story would make a fantastic film because of all the visual places the author takes the reader.

Songwriters: A Biographical Dictionary With Discographies
Published in Hardcover by McFarland & Company (September, 1998)
Author: Nigel Harrison
Average review score:

Songwriters : A Biographical Dictionary - N. Harrison
An indispensable musical reference tome. Mr. Harrison has
gathered discographies on many of the major songwriters of
our time, combining it with information on the recording
artists who made the songs famous. I have found no other
book which provides so much useful information in this
manner. The biographical sketches are concise, and each
entry also lists co-writers and collaborators. A must have!

Exhaustive research turns up the gems of the genre
Nigel Harrison's SONGWRITER'S is the definitive work for anyone interested in the craft and history of songwriting. Who wrote the greatest songs of all time? The answers are all there, in one fantastic volume.

More than a reference book for songwrtiting geeks or trivia pursuants, SONGWRITERS gives you the history of the people, as well as an indepth list of their work.

The writing style of Mr. Harrison is beyong compare. He evades the encyclopedic writing that is so prevelant in this genre with his witty and insightful comments throughout.

Every music lover should have a copy on their shelf, just as you'd have Norton's HISTORY OF WESTERN MUSIC. It is the next natural step in the musical evolutionary process. Reading SONGWRITERS will only enhance your enjoyment of the songs you know and love by knowing something about the people who wrote them. And the work is not without its mysteries. You'd be surprised to learn who has written some of your favorite songs.

Stories of the Academy: Learning from the Good Mother (Counterpoints (New York, N.Y.), Vol. 187.)
Published in Paperback by Peter Lang Publishing (June, 2002)
Authors: Mary Beth Spore, Nelson L. Haggerson, and Marsha Dianne Harrison
Average review score:

A splendid surprise!
I expected to be enlightened about the travails of women in academic life (and about the "kindness of strangers" in the mentoring system. But I didn't expect to be emotionally moved by the stories and the valiant spirit of the women behind them! This book offers a completely humanistic prescription to many of the ills which have, since time immemorial, infected higher education. I plan to buy a copy and give it to my department chairperson (if he reads it, he may at least learn how far short of the mark he and his colleagues are and what he might do to improve the situation at our school). Kudos to the writers of this book and to those who allowed their stories to be told.

This book could transform the Academy.
Presented with passionate conviction and eloquent wisdom, these life-stories show that the Groves of Academe need not be the heartless and treacherous mind-fields that they often have been. There is another way, a better way. Spore et al. offer an alternative, person-centered vision that challenges us to understand that professionalism need not exclude compassion, that the quest for scholastic excellence does not preclude the need for enabling (and yes, ennobling) nurturing. Whether you are male or female, already involved in higher education or planning to be, this book is essential reading.
